Kid skin

Trying to decide on a neutral colour to paint a couple of walls inside since before we moved in the previous owners painted every single wall a pale lemon. I am all pale lemoned out, give me some colour bay-bee.
But is it just me, or does a paint colour that is named ‘Kid Skin’ sound slightly creepy?
Went to visit a girlfriend who is just back home after a whirlwind trip around Europe. Ahh, the carefree life before children (can you tell I’m green with envy)!? It was great to see her again. I hope we can catch up more often for a bit of girly chit-chat every now and then.

Self inflicted.
I had one too many glasses of red wine after dinner last night which resulted in a few ‘your such a good friend’ emails being sent and the addition of an ex-friend as a ‘friend’ on facebook. (Ex-friend as I found some not so nice text messages between them and an ex-boyfriend of mine). Hmm.
Anyway, after a slow morning, we met a friend and her boys at a fantastic new playground by the river. It’s great! Fenced so the kids can’t run away and a multitude of climbing things, slides and swings to keep them occupied for hours. It was such a nice location, that I think next time I’ll have to convince hubby to pack up our bikes for a ride along the river.

Mine!
Picture this…
It’s a beautiful morning – bright, blue skies, warm sunshine, sounds of our neighbours having a late breakfast outside, the odd light plane flying overhead, me sitting out on the daybed with a steaming hot cup of tea…seems peaceful right? It lasted all of about 1 minute.
Master A has been in a foul mood since he got up this morning, whining and crying about the most trivial things. So when Master H dared to touch his dumptruck in his sandpit the world ended.
Chaotic is how I describe my household most of the time.

Rainy start
I have been waiting for a rainy day like this to come along. I had visions of snuggling up in bed and finishing reading the library books that are due back next week. It almost worked even. Master A trundled off with Nan and Pop this morning to visit the museum and Master H went down for his nap at 10am. Snuggly doona vs aimless blog surfing….guess what I ended up doing. Yes, I do have my priorities mixed up. I did discover some great blogs and started my own so all is not lost.

Buried Treasure
The previous owners of our house used to run a family daycare. Dynamo thought it was fantastic when we came to check out the place because the backyard had all sorts of pedal cars parked along the back wall. He was mighty disappointed when we showed up with the removal truck to find that they were no longer there!
Today it poured with rain pretty much all morning, so this afternoon when it finally stopped I took the kids outside to let off some steam. I was pruning the passionfruit vine, which is threatening to bring down the fence it is that heavy, when I looked down and saw a small boot sticking out of the garden bed. It turned out to be a plastic army man who’d been unearthed by all the rain!
It’s not the first time we’ve found toys in the garden. There have been matchbox cars a-plenty, a little wooden elephant, plastic jewelery and now an army man!

Park, Dig, Play
A visit to Hyde Park for a quick play and a bite to eat.
Digging in the dirt. Can’t tell you how much hand wash we go through at our place.

Earth Hour

A quiet event in our house tonight. Dynamo is staying at Nan’s and Spud was in bed well before it started.
It was nice. I love candle light. Although, this photo makes me realise how dusty my tea light holders are! Oops.

one a penny, two a penny

Last week I decided I wanted to make hot cross buns since the supermarkets around here charge exorbitant prices for a half dozen packet. Don’t get me started on how much the chocolate chip ones go for!
The first batch wasn’t too successful, they turned out more like hot cross rocks that you’d break your teeth on.
The second batch was much better, they actually looked like the real deal. They could have done with a bit more kneading though as they weren’t as light as the shop bought ones.
Yum. I’ve had toasted hot cross buns with butter for breakfast for the past 4 mornings now.
What’s even better is that now I know how I can make them all year round! Next up is a choc chip batch.

It’s March already?

I made a list in January of 100 things that I wanted to accomplish this year. I guess I knew it wasn’t going to end well when I actually only came up with 45 things to put on the list. Some things only lasted a few weeks, like doing 10 situps a day, drinking 2 litres of water a day etc. Oops, oh well. Tomorrow I keep telling myself.
Another thing on my list was making Spud’s first birthday cake – a pig! I was quite impressed as I only arrived home from a 2 week course in Adelaide the night before. I cheated a bit and used a packet buttercake mix, then made up the icing with a few drops of red food colouring. I didn’t actually get to taste it as it only just stretched to cover the party guests, but Dynamo assures me that it was ‘mmm….delicious’.

crafty days
I’ve been spending more time actually doing things rather than time on the computer reading about doing things. I found these paper globe instructions which I thought was a great idea to use up all the christmas cards I’ve been hoarding the past few years. So far I’ve made 3 different sizes. I’m finding the smaller they are, the more fiddly they are to put together! I think they’ll look great on the tree next year. I’ve also got a plan to make a garland out of origami stars – although I’ve yet to find the right paper to start.
Another thing I’ve been doing is repairing a quilt that I made for my gran 4 years ago. Sadly she’s no longer with us, so I’m glad that it didn’t get lost in the meantime. My boys love it so much that I’m planning on making one for either of them as a snuggle rugs. (Just another reason to buy a new sewing machine!)
